Nef Island is the northernmost island of an archipelago connecting it with the distant southern continent. The archipelago was once a united land mass, and Nef City, at its northern extremity, was its capital. Three thousand years before the re-discovery of the scrolls of ancient Nef, a shifting of the southern tectonic plates sank the lowlands of the peninsula, leaving only its pointed mountaintops above sea-level. Nef City was suddenly on a round volcanic island—and isolated from the continent whose resources had supported its prosperity.
